Shopping, Shopping, Shopping and Disney on Ice

We had a great day the next day.  We headed to all the stores we don't have around here.  The older girls had a blast going shopping, and we actually got quite a few cute things for ourselves when we were supposed to be shopping for the kids.  Oh well!  The girls were just ready to get to Disney on Ice, but they were troopers.  Claire told Chad when we got home that we "went shopping, shopping, shopping and then Disney on Ice."  I thought it was so funny.
Claire and Lilly at the mall.
So once we got to Disney on Ice, we found our seats.  I was being cheap when I ordered the tickets, and thought we were getting a deal by getting cheaper tickets, but on row one.  Boy was I wrong.  They were terrible, and the ledge scared the death out of us.  Luckily we arrived early enough that we went down to the ticket booth, and were able to exchange our tickets for some better ones.  Much better.  My mom was so kind to pay the difference for all of us.  We ended up on the 7th row.  As we were standing in line a lady came up to us and told us that she had 2 front row tickets that she was giving away.  I told Anjie to take them.  It was so sweet.  I was so happy for her and MaKinlee.  Minnie Mouse even gave MaKinlee her flower during the show.  All the girls had a great time, and loved seeing the princesses of course.  Claire happily spent her money on junk, but I was just glad that she had her own money and could make her own choices.

It is sure nice spending time with this girl.  We don't always see eye to eye, but it is important to do stuff like this together.  Hopefully she will remember the good times over the bad.

Grandma and her girls.  She sure made their day.

Swimming

Our final stop for the evening was our hotel.  My mom generously donated some of my dad's thousands of Marriott points so we could stay at a hotel.  The girls were so excited to go swimming, and yes we took them at 10:00 at night.  We knew they wouldn't have time on the next day, so we wanted to give them a chance to swim.  The girls had a blast.  I realized how tired I was after spending a few minutes in the hot tub.  I haven't been able to do that in awhile because I am usually pregnant.  Claire is becoming a little fish, and loved to swim and jump out to anyone who would have her.  Grandma usually got that pleasure, but I think she enjoyed it.
The girls all ready to go!
Grandma brought Claire's birthday present and gave it to her a few weeks early.  She was so happy.  She loves frilly dresses, and was happy to have another white one.

The Mayan

Our second stop was to take the girls to the Mayan for dinner.  Claire was not feeling well, and had been complaining of a tummy ache at IKEA, so we crushed up a Tylenol and she felt much better after that.  She wasn't sure about the restaurant while we waited for our table, but once we got inside, she was so excited.  They were in the middle of a show, so it was fun to see the little girls eyes.  Luckily it was a little late, so it wasn't that busy and they could stand at the railing and watch the shows.  I was on my liquid diet, so I didn't get to enjoy the food, but the waiter was nice enough to bring me a glass of hot water so I could make my yummy cream of wheat.  It tasted just like Fajitas. :-)  We had a great dinner, and the girls loved it.  As we were getting our coats on to leave, Claire came up to me and told me she didn't feel well, and proceeded to throw up everything she had eaten.  I felt terrible for the waiter, but he handled it well.  The good news was that she felt much better after that, so she could enjoy the rest of our night.

The guy was walking around after his show.  I was surprised that they all actually stood by him to take a picture.  Claire was thrilled.

Girls Weekend!

Last weekend was my long awaited girls weekend.  When I told my mom about our plans, you immediately decided that she wanted to come too.  So, all the Farmer girls and their little girls, along with my good friend Anjie and MaKinlee came along.  We headed to Utah for some shopping, food, and of course Disney on Ice.  The girls were so excited for it, and could hardly wait for the last part, but there were many things to do first.

Claire on our way to Utah.  She was very excited.  She had been up since 4 in the morning, and I was hoping she would take a nap.  She finally took a short one.

Our first stop, IKEA.  It was a great start especially since they had things the girls would like.
Anjie and MaKinlee - Anjie and I left before the others.  They went to Rexburg to pick up
Amber and we were ready to go.  They were only about 45 minutes behind us, so we had extra browsing time.
The girls waiting for a chance to go into the play area.  Unfortunately the people in front of us made it full, so they didn't get a chance to go in.

Achalasia

The one thing you don't want to read when you are delving deep into the mysteries of medicine are the words, "rare and incurable disease."  Yep that's right folks those are some deep words, and apparently I have that type of disease.  Now mind you it won't kill me.  As a matter of fact some of the side effects are malnutrition and weight loss.  I could almost live with that if it wasn't so miserable to sleep, and eat most of the time.  So let me explain my story and then you will understand what Achalasia is.

After Ava was born I had some serious problems with what I thought was Acid Reflux.  Looking back I'm sure it started while I was pregnant, but I was so miserable that I didn't notice it that bad.  Well, when Ava was about 3 months old I finally went to the doctor and he hooked me up with some great acid reflux medicine.  It seemed to do the trick for awhile.  I went back, got on a new medicine about 3 months later, and then about a month and a half into that medicine, I went back.  Nothing seemed to be working.  I would lay down at night to go to sleep, and things would just come back up.  It was miserable!!  Eating hurt, and I stopped eating or drinking anything after 6 in the evening, hoping that I would be able to sleep.  Finally the doctor sent me to the gastrointestinal doctor.  Of course getting in to see him was like a gazillion year wait, and even then I only saw the PA.  He thought I had a quick fix, and scheduled me to come back for a test where they look down into your esophagus and stomach.

I went back for the test, and this time I saw the doctor.  I talked to him for a whole minute before they knocked me out, and he told me that he thought I had something more serious.  While I was coming to, I hear the nurses making an appointment for another test that I had at the hospital, and an appointment with the elusive doctor for the next week.  I knew it wasn't good at this point.  2 days later I am at the hospital for a pleasant test.  They stuck a tube down my nose and into my stomach (told you PLEASANT!!), all while you are awake, and have you drink water.  It was a lovely morning, but it told them what they needed to know that things just weren't working there.  Oh I forgot to mention after the first test I was put on a liquid diet.  Lovely!!  I did my best but there are only so many protein shakes you can drink.  Those things are gross!

So I went back to the doctor on Tuesday and I learned my fate.  Achalasia.  Only about 1 in 100,000 people have this, and there is no explanation as to why people get it.  It is basically where your muscles in your esophagus stop working.  The nerves in them disintegrate, so it no longer works.  Therefore all the muscles in my esophagus have given up, and food cannot get to my stomach.  It eventually gets there, but most times it is very painful, and takes forever for things to go down.  I can just feel it sitting there waiting for the tube going into my stomach to open.  So I am trying to be good.  He told me I could eat again, but to be careful.  There are 4 ways to treat this, but we are opting for surgery which I will do in Salt Lake once I am done with preschool for the year.  They are basically going to go into my chest and snip the muscle fibers that work my esophagus so it is just always open.  Then they will tighten the opening to my stomach so food stays down.  I can't wait!!  I am just grateful that there is a way they can somehow fix me if you want to call it that.  So for now I will thoroughly enjoy my Jamba Juices, and maybe lose some more weight in the process.

Little Moments

We are busy, so busy.  I keep thinking that our life will slow down, but there are some great moments that I don't want to forget.  I feel like sometimes I don't have enough time to cherish the little moments.
Owen was sent to clean his room.  This is what I found.  Optimus Prime was tuckered out.
These two happy kids were just having a great day.
I'm pretty sure that Owen took this picture.  Ava is such a happy girl, and she loves being around all her brothers and sisters.  She just started crawling a couple weeks ago, and was so proud of herself.

February

February was a bush month.  I continue to work hard each day doing preschool and relish my Fridays and weekends.  Sundays are the best when we just get to spend time with each other.  We had a wonderful Valentine's Day, and were also able to have Aunt Amber visit us from BYU-I for a weekend.  It is always fun to have her around, and so nice for me since Chad works all weekend and I usually am ready for a break.  She also watched the kids while Chad and I went and got a few things done that we needed to do without kids.  We had to get our brakes checked (which Chad later changed by himself), and look at some things for an upgrade we are going to do on our house once Chad is done with school.

Claire is still doing great in school, and usually gets up OK.  She is a social butterfly.  I am so proud of how well she is doing in her reading, and math.  She has grown up a lot lately.

The rest of the kids are doing well.  They keep busy, and love having friends around.  Grant is doing great with his speech, but is still working hard each day.  We are ready to see what March has to offer us.
